The New York State Capitol Building has undergone major restoration over the past few years and Miller Mechanical was called on to help provide the services for the remodel of one of the many intricate staircases in the building. For preservation purposes, the stone used is from the same quarry that the original staircase was constructed. Due to the brittle nature of the natural veins in the unique red slate, all of the parts had to be cut while avoiding these veins. Using templates for every piece, all were carefully digitized and individually laid out for cutting. This resulted in a perfect fit and minimal finishing for installation.
