A local customer was searching for a more cost effective means to machine a 4” to 1” tapered transition in an adapter flange for a large piece of industrial equipment. Previously these would be machined at a significant cost. It was an opportunity to save time and money with Miller’s Flow XD Waterjet. The material is 4” thick #304L stainless steel, and was delivered oversize (and unfortunately plasma cut). After maneuvering the heavy piece, knocking away some of the slag from the plasma cut and 5 hours later, a near perfect transition appeared in the center of the blank. This operation saved more than double the time on our customers machining center. This allowed it to be free for other work in their busy shop.
