Pictured below are Justin and Mike working to move the positioner and the attached top head into closer proximity of the sub arc machine for welding. Mike will be working on completing the circumferencial weld of the short shell section to the top head. It’s has a 304 stainless liner with a carbon steel base material. The sub arc is a type of welding machine that puts down a welding bead of good quality at a faster rate of speed.
Around the inside of the shell is explosion bond clad material. Note the video below to see the process by which this material is made by an outside vendor.
Upon completion, the head will be 100% x-rayed and brought to a pulp and paper facility in Maine where our field crew will be involved in its installation during a shut down in October.
