Big city work happening in Glens Falls. Miller Mechanical was delighted to assist a regional stone fabricator with an architectural installation required for a new building in Manhattan. The wall installation is to total approx. 17 foot wide by 18 foot tall. It’s all manufactured from 4” thick granite and designated for a lobby space in the new building. 43 total faceted stones are required to construct the wall, including a large 6 foot circle. All of the cut granite stones are designed to fit together at their edges with zero gap along the joints. It’s nearly or as tight as the pyramids.
The design is based around an ancient Japanese method of wall construction that the architect refers to as “Cracked Ice”. To make the stones correctly, the stone fabricator had searched high and low for a shop willing to accept the challenge and also had the capability to handle very heavy objects. The caveat to the request was to turn the job around in less than 3 weeks. The project was well over 160 hours of machine time and Miller met the deadline with time to spare. These customers did not need to look any further than Miller Mechanical Services.
