A local customer had purchased a large batch of ceramic insulators for their project. After the rigors of communicating with and waiting for the product to arrive from China, the parts ultimately appeared but were made incorrectly and could not be used. The company was now under great pressure to find a solution to this problem. They needed to assemble and ship their product on time. A cured/fired, industrial ceramic can be one of the most difficult materials to alter. It is very brittle as well as being abrasive and heat resistant, so much so that most all cutting processes will fail. Miller Mechanical was able to create a fixture that could hold the ceramic parts and ultimately alter them using their water jet. The customer now had a product with the correct dimensions required for the finished assembly as well as the benefit of a quick turnaround.
